OBITUARY

MRS ISABEL TWEEDIE

There passed away on Monday, 30th September, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs Hugh Thoreson [Thoresen], an old and highly esteemed resident of the Makotuku district in the person of Mrs Isabel Tweedie, widow of the late J. M. Tweedie.

For the past 30 years the late Mrs Tweedie resided with her family at Blairgowrie, Makotuku, and was well known and much beloved by all.

Her devout christian life was an inspiration to others, and up till quite recently she was rarely missed from her place of worship.

Possessed of a friendly and genial disposition, she showed deep interest not only in her own family, but also in the welfare of her friends and neighbours.

Born in Northern Ireland, the late Mrs Tweedie was a daughter of Robert McClelland, and a cousin of Dr. Robert McClelland of Banbridge.  She was also a niece of Samuel McClelland, M.A., at whose classical school the father of the famous authoress Charlotte Bronte was educated.  Deceased was also a cousin of Professor Samuel Andrews, of Belfast.  Another cousin was the Rev. W.C. Radcliffe, the one-time Moderator of the General Assembly of New South Wales and Chancellor of Emmanuel College, Brisbane.

The late Mrs Tweedie is survived by three sons and five daughters – Messrs Samuel, Albert and Fred Tweedie; Mrs Sanson, Rongotea; Mrs J.W. Clapham of Palestine (now in New Zealand); Mrs Hugh Thoreson, Dannevirke; and the Misses Olivia and Caroline Tweedie.
