NAPIER FRIVOLITY MINSTREL SOCIETY

Foreword by the President
I would again like to thank the public of Hawke’s Bay for their wonderful support over the past season, and we look forward to seeing you all at our coming performances in your district.

This year’s show, “Call Me Colonel,” I think is one of the most humorous and tuneful we have had the honour to present, and I trust you will enjoy it as much as we do in presenting it to you.

In conclusion, I would like to thank the following persons and organisations for their help, in many ways, in the production of “Call Me Colonel”: Mrs Waite (costumes), Mr R. Lavin (music), the Hardgrave Brothers (backstage), front of house staff, Mr Fred Burton (poster design), H.B. Motor Co., Daily Telegraph, Napier Operatic Society, Mrs F. J. Leonard, and all others who have helped to make the show such a success.

Production Personnel
Once again the Minstrel Section of this year’s production has been produced and arranged by Jock Stevenson, who also is the Interlocutor – a position he has held for the past four seasons. He has been associated with the stage in Napier for many years, playing with repertory and operatic societies, as well as many other organisations.

In the Pantomime he is cast as Baron Serge Swartz, the Marcovian Ambassador.

Joan Leonard, Ballet Mistress, has been associated with the Frivs for the past eight years, and for the last five productions has handled with credit the ballet and dance routines in both sections of the show. She has also played many leading roles in the last few Pantomimes and this year is cast as Mitzi – Colonel Boulle’s jealous girl friend.

Once again the Pantomime Section of the Show has been written by Sid Henney, this being the tenth consecutive Pantomime he has written and produced for the Frivs. He has also written extensively for radio – children’s plays and sketches.

Besides these activities he has acted for the past ten years in the capacity of hon. secretary to the company.

THE FOUR CORNERMEN TAKE A BOW . . .

Once again the important role of Cornermen is being played by those old favourites – Left, Len Dadson (Mr. Bones); centre, Trevor Dockery [Dockary] (Rastus) – and Bob Ross (Moses). They all take leading roles in the Pantomime.

For the second year Vic Viggers also fills the role of Mr Sambo – the fourth Cornerman. Vic has been a leading comedian in Hawke’s Bay for many years, playing leading roles with the “Frivs.” As Colonel Boulle he once again shows his talent for hilarious comedy.

Who Have We Here!   Meet . . .

William Mayo, our Musical Director for 1960. Bill also arranged the music for last year’s show, “The Shriek of Araby,” as well as handling this important part for this year’s production. He has been associated with the Frivs for a number of years, both as performer on stage and in the orchestra.

Ian Barber. – Ian paints our scenery that we use each year in the Napier performances of the Pantomime and adds greatly to the success of our productions. Also the programme cover designs from his artistic and inventive mind. He is resident in Auckland.

Norman Etheridge, an old Friv, each year acts as our House Manager for the Napier performances and we feel sure our patrons will also remember his association as a performer, on the Corner and other roles.

Meet some of the Company!

All five Frivs have been associated with the Company for several years. Jill O’Brien, Wardrobe Mistress, this year plays the role of Baroness Olga Plottski, and Margaret Atkins the part of Crown Prince Rudi of Marcovia.

As a member of the Ballet, Noeline Leonard takes part in the Dream Sequence “Tonight,” and Adrianne Bangs and Alan Hall are both valuable members of the Chorus, with Alan making one of the Instrumental Trio who appear in Scene One of the Pantomime.
