Foreword from the President
(Wally Ireland)

Tonight it is again my pleasure and privilege to welcome you to another performance by the “Frivs”.

You will be seeing quite a few new faces on stage, also some of the old stalwarts.

Last year’s second half of the programme, “Old Time Music Hall” was such a success that we are doing an “Old Time Village Concert” and we feel sure that you will have a night of fun.

To all members, some of long standing association with the Frivs, who have left the Company we would like to say thanks for their valued services, and trust that the new members will be with us for a few years.

We would also like to say thank you to you, the public, for your continued support.

Producer Minstrel Show

Sid Henney, Secretary for the Frivs. since 1953, has, after a lapse of one year, returned to the Production side of the Show. He has selected and arranged the Minstrel Show for this year’s production and would like to express his thanks for the great assistance given by Shirley Hanley and Bill Mayo.

He has also written and produced some 14 Pantomimes for the Frivs, as well as having written children’s plays, sketches for radio.

Bill Mayo, Musical Director and Arranger for this year’s production, has been a member of the Frivs since 1950, having been a member of both the Circle and Orchestra.

He has been arranging for the leading dance bands and orchestra in Hawke’s Bay since the 1950’s, but this is the first production as the Frivs. Musical Director. He has also orchestrated for recordings, and recently with the Pohutukawa Performers, has an L.P. recording to his credit.

He has also scored and orchestrated all the musical numbers used in this year’s Show.

The Frivs. thank him for the hard work he has put in to make 1967 a special year.

The Frivs. are pleased once again  to have Shirley Hanley on the Production side. This is the sixth show she has been associated with and this year her work has been to devise and carry out routines used in the Circle movement.

Prominent in dance circles in Hawke’s Bay, and having a ballet school of her own, Shirley brings to her task a happy knack of getting everyone to give of their best.

The Frivs, also express to her their thanks for the efforts undertaken on their behalf.

Are you always completely satisfied with the dresses you make . . .
No doubt about it, the perfect, professional-looking fit can be hard to get. For one thing, patterns often need adjustment. Then again, there’s many a slip “twixt trying-on and taking-off.” Often the end result is something not so perfect and an unhappy feeling of time mis-spent, plus money and material mis-used.
BLYTHES CAN HELP YOU
Blythes can help you with a “Purfex” expanding dressmaker model. This light, easily carried dress-form expands at 40 places to give exact fit for any figure variation in 31 to 42 inch bust measurement. Made from strong fibre glass with covering layer of material for easy pinning. Model has height adjustment and revolves easily on a tubular stand.

INFORMATION WE THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW
The Napier Frivolity Minstrels was first formed in 1897 and gave its first performance at Eskdale in the same year. Since that date the Company have never missed performing in any one year and in more recent years their season comprises some 18 to 20 shows played for school committees or charity organisations.

It has been conservatively estimated that the Frivs have raised between £50,000 to £60,000 for various causes since their inception in 1897.
