THE GREATEST NAME IN CIGARETTES
All over the world more people smoke Rothmans than any other King Size Virginia.
The reason is not hard to find: Rothmans extra length, finer filter and the best tobacco money can buy give you that cooler, smoother, more satisfying taste.
Rothmans King Size really satisfies.
WORLD’S LARGEST SELLING KING SIZE VIRGINIA
MANUFACTURED BY ROTHMANS IN NEW ZEALAND. ALSO IN GREAT BRITAIN, AUSTRALIA, CANADA, HOLLAND, SOUTH AFRICA, MALAYSIA, AND EIRE

Foreword from the President
Tonight you are seeing the Seventy-second annual performance of the “Frivs”, which means we have put on a show every year for 72 years without missing a year, a theatrical record that we think is unequalled in New Zealand and one which we are very proud of.

This has only been made possible by the loyalty of past and present members.

This year, as well as the traditional minstrel first half, we have gone back to the second half pantomime with a western flavour, and we trust you enjoy it as much as we enjoy presenting it to you.

To all members we say thank you for the hard work you have put to make the show a success, and to you, the audience, we say thank you for your continued support.

Producer – Musical Comedy
“Way Out West” is written and produced by Sid Henney. The original version was first used in 1958 but has been revised with additional music.

Over the years many requests have been made to perform this musical comedy again and the Frivs feel you will enjoy this renewed acquaintance with Sheriff Billy the Kid and his associates.

Since he began writing for the Frivs in 1953, Sid Henney has written and produced fourteen shows. His other efforts have been in radio writing, children’s plays and sketches.

His additional duties as the Napier Frivolity Minstrels Hon. Secretary means a full time job – a position held since 1953.

He wishes to express his personal thanks to Shirley Hanley, Roy Robinson, Alan Johnson and Elizabeth Johnson for their great assistance, and thank the Company for their efforts to make 1968 a happy and successful year.

Musical Director
Roy Robinson, Musical Director for the 1968 production has been a member of the Napier Frivolity Minstrels orchestra for several years. This is the first occasion that he has held this important role with the Frivs.

He has been associated with various orchestras in Hawke’s Bay, playing in numerous Operatic Society shows. In these capacities he has been a member of the orchestra, playing trumpet.

Also he is associated with the Hastings Citizens Band.

The Frivs thank him for his hard work this season and express the hope that 1968 will be a special year for him in the musical world.

Producer – Minstrel Show
Production of the ‘Minstrel Show’ is in the capable hands of Shirley Hanley, who devised and arranged the numbers used in the first segment of the 1968 production. Ballet routines and chorus movements were also arranged by her. In the pantomime chorus and ballet arrangements were also arranged by her.

Shirley has been associated with the Frivs for seven years – this being the first occasion as Producer of a part of the production.

Prominent in Hawke’s Bay dance circles, and having a Ballet school of her own, Shirley brings to the Frivs a zest and verve that helps to send any show she is associated with along with sparkle and polish. The Frivs again thank her for her efforts and hard work to make this year’s production a success.
