LERNER AND LOEWE’S

PAINT YOUR WAGON

AUGUST 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 1968
MUNICIPAL THEATRE, WAIPAWA

President’s Message

Paint your Wagon – and come along!

Thank you ladies and gentlemen for supporting the Waipawa Musical and Dramatic Club and coming along to our 1968 production.

We seem to find it harder each year to get cast and public support for our shows, but we do hope you enjoy our latest effort as much as we have enjoyed presenting it to you.

The Club’s thanks to all who have helped in any way – without your help we could not survive and – thank you, audience.

Production Personnel

Producer:   Dorothy Holderness

Dorothy Holderness comes from Hastings and has had many years experience with such groups as the Hastings Group Theatre, Napier Repertory, and the Hastings Light Opera Company. She undertook the production of last year’s ‘Wedding in Paris’ and the success of that show was due largely to her ability and knowledge and this is sure to apply to ‘Paint Your Wagon’.

Musical Director:   Barbara Towers

Barbara Towers, L.T.C.L., has again handled the musical side of this year’s production.

She is a teacher at the Waipawa Primary School and has been associated with many previous Waipawa Musical and Dramatic Club productions, including 1966’s ‘The Boyfriend’ and 1967’s ‘Wedding in Paris’.

Choreoghapher [Choreographer]:   Cynthia Wheeler

Cynthia Wheeler comes from Gisborne but has recently been in Hawke’s Bay with Jean Ballantyne. She works both as a teacher as well as a performer, and is dancing in the forthcoming production of ‘The Pyjama Game’ in Hastings.

Pianist:   Glenice Mojel

Since 1964’s production of ‘Trial By Jury’, the Waipawa Musical and Dramatic Club has been fortunate to have Glenice Mojel always ready as accompanist. Glenice was pianist for last year’s production ‘Wedding in Paris’ and those who saw this show will recognise her talents.

Conductor:  Janet Ellison

The Club is fortunate this year to have the assistance of the Waipukurau Orchestra and its conductor Janet Ellison. Mrs Ellison has been actively interested in music for many years, both with the orchestra and with the Central Hawke’s Bay College. ‘Paint Your Wagon’ is certain to benefit from her ability.

PAINT YOUR WAGON

WAIPAWA MUSICAL & DRAMATIC CLUB

PRODUCED BY DOROTHY HOLDERNESS

“Paint Your Wagon” is set in and around a Californian gold-mining town in the 1850’s. The town is known as Rumson, after Ben Rumson, the miner who staked the first mining claim at this position. The plot tells the story of the rise and fall of this typical gold-rush town, with its good-time girls and rough hard-living miners.
