Viva Mexico!

The Story

In a remote part of Mexico stands El Rancho Grande, run by Mama Inez and her son Ramon. Everyone including Lopez, the ruthless Chief of Police, knows that Ramon is the bandit known as El Zorro but he is too popular for Lopez ever to find a witness to testify against him. Mendoza, the mad revolutionary leader, hears that a stage coach will pass close to the ranch carrying Senator Vanders and his daguther[daughter] Lucille, who are escorting a fortune in American dollars on its way to prop up the crumbling regime of El Presidente the tyrant ruler. The bandit gang successfully raid the coach and take the luggage. Ramon’s girlfriend Raquelita makes sure that the police are well clear of the ranch before the raiding party is allowed to return. The Senator and Lucille come to stay at the ranch to recover from their harrowing ordeal and Lucille knows instinctively that Ramon is El Zorro. She promises not to denounce him and Ramon rewards her with a kiss, witnessed by the hot-blooded Lola who had loved Ramon before he chose Raquelita. She threatens to give Lopez a new lead in his search for Zorro. Mendoza then arrives with the information that the Senator was not carrying dollars but a banker’s draft which is eventually found when Lucille retires for the night. It is sewn into one of her petticoats. The Americans’ visit coincides with the ceremony of “Aztec Night.” At the climax of the ritual a shot intended for Ramon hits Lola. The revels recommence when it is found that Lopez ran away immediately after the shot and that Lola is not badly hurt. To Raquelita’s chagrin Ramon dances with Lucille during the fiesta. Next morning Mendoza reports that the revolution is over. El Presidente has been replaced by a new moderate president so the bank draft and luggage can be returned. Lucille makes a farewell gift to the injured Lola and Ramon decides he can now give up his role of “El Zorro,” to the great delight of Raquelita.
