Message from Montana Wines

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to The McDonald Winery, and to the inaugural ‘A Bit of A Do in The Bay’.

It has been said that the health of the arts in a society are indicative of the health of its civilisation. The arts often challenge us to look at the familiar with new eyes, keeping social attitudes from becoming moribund and thus keeping our society vital and alive whilst celebrating our diversity.

The connection between wine and the arts is as old as western civilisation itself. It is thus entirely appropriate that Montana, New Zealand’s leading winemaker, presents a festival of the visual and performing arts here in Taradale in the centenary year of The McDonald Winery.

Even more importantly, it is appropriate that the funds raised from this festival will go to the Hawke’s Bay Visual and Performing Arts Trust. This Trust is being set up to help further the careers of developing Hawke’s Bay artists and it is most gratifying to see the wonderful support being given to this project by the many talented artists here today from all over Hawke’s Bay.

It is with particular joy that we welcome the New Zealand Chamber Orchestra back to the Winery, together with our very special guest, Dame Malvina Major.

I hope you enjoy this festival of Hawke’s Bay talent and the NZCO concert to follow. Thank you for your support of the Hawke’s Bay Visual and Performing Arts Trust.
