OFFENBACH’S ARRIVAL IN AMERICA
BOSTON POPS ORCHESTRA.

In 1876 taking his life in his hands or so he thought, Offenbach famous composer and conductor set sail to America on the S.S. Canada. He arrived safe and sound much to his astonishment and was received with great success. Here is our version of what happened before and on the arrival of Monsieur Offenbach.

DANCES OF GALANTA

Kodaly as a student of the Royal Academy of Music in Budapest, his desire was for the creation of National Hungarian music nourished from folk sources.

The present Suite was written in 1933 for the eightieth Anniversary of the foundation of the Budapest Philharmonic Society. Galanta is a small town where Kodaly spent a happy childhood. His themes for this Suite are not original but taken from Galanta Gypsies, dances. The last three movements have been used.

TIL EULENSPIEGEL

Til is a rogue who cannot help teasing first a haughty lady who does not respond to his advances. A fopish [foppish] Cavalier and his lady fall foul of his impish humour. Hunchbacks pass by and Til, unable to control himself, joins in their procession and claims a miraculous cure for this supposed affliction. Nell his love, then dances merrily with him but Til is overcome with a presentiment of doom, he however shrugs it off and leads a mock battle with his Shopkeeper friends. However fate catches up with him and he is sentenced to be beheaded but is reprieved by Nell who convinces all he could reform with her love. However Til has the last word.
