My dear Allan,

I am delighted to note that my recommendations for your appointment as QHP have been graciously accepted.

There are several points which are worthy of remark – in the first place you know of course that this is the highest Honorary appointment which can be given to an Officer on the Active List of RNZAMC, and in consequence is one very jealously guarded. As you will well know, your predecessor Russell King was exemplary in this respect and I have no doubts at all but that you will carry on the tradition.

As to duties, these are purely nominal except in the event of Her Majesty being in this country when you would almost certainly be required to attend her.

Although aiguillettes will be issued to you in due course it is the custom in Army that these be not worn except in the actual presence of H.M.

From a personal point of view as well as from the viewpoint of RNZAMC, I am more than delighted with this appointment, feeling that it recognises in some small way your long service particularly in the difficult days of 1939-45.

Warmest congratulations and regards to you both, for of course Joyce shares in this distinction.

Yours very sincerely,

[Signed]
[…]
