Gilbertson – Nelson
The wedding took place at St Matthew’s Church, Hastings, yesterday afternoon of Joceline, youngest daughter of the late Mr F. M. Nelson of Whakamarumaru, Hawke’s Bay, to Douglas, fourth son of Mr and Mrs H. Gilbertson, Havelock North. The Rev. C. Tanner officiated.
The church had been prettily decorated by friends of the bride for the ceremony at which appropriate music was played by Mr C. B. Spinney.
The bride wore a charming ensemble of heavy ivory satin, the skirt pleated from the knee and falling in full flares to the ground. The fitted bodice was tucked and inset with angelskin lace. A little coatee had puffed sleeves, inset with lace and a crossing basque at the waist fastening with brilliant buttons. A tulle veil embroidered in lovers’ knots was caught with side clusters of orange blossoms. Crystal beads were worn and ivory satin shoes and a lovely sheaf of arum lilies was carried.
Miss Betty Menzies of Poriate [Poraiti] was bridesmaid. Her frock was of pale pink net over crepe de chene, the skirt having graduated pink taffetas flowers in applique. The elbow sleeves were full and a pink Juliet cap with panne velvet bow at the neck and pink shoes were worn. A Victorian posy of pink daphne and violets with maidenhair fern was carried.
Mr Roy Gilbertson was best man.
Mr Leslie Nelson, a brother, gave the bride away.
After the ceremony about 60 guests were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Nelson Paretai, Mangateretere, where the usual toasts were honoured. The room was decorated with spring bulbs, violets and Iceland poppies and a two-tiered cake was cut by the bride.
Mrs H. Gilbertson, mother of the bridegroom, wore a becoming ensemble of bottle-green silk marocain with cream vestee and brown fox fur, and she carried a posy of daphne and violets.
Mrs Leslie Nelson, who acted as hostess, wore a charming frock of navy blue with oyster-grey collar and cuffs finely pleated.
