Obituary

Mrs. Douglas Lane

The death occurred suddenly yesterday of Mrs. Kathleen Jean Lane, wife of Mr. Douglas Lane, of Lane’s Road, Havelock North, and member of the well-known Hawke’s Bay family. When Mr. Lane left the house yesterday morning to work on the farm his wife appeared in her normal health and intimated that she intended going shopping in the afternoon. Upon his return at noon, however, he found his wife lying on the floor. Efforts to revive her failed.

Born at Te Mahanga 46 years ago, Mrs. Lane was the elder daughter of Mrs. K. C. White, Havelock North, and the late Mr. W. J. Douglas, Te Mahanga. She was educated at Woodford House and was a keen sportswoman, being interested in most branches of sport. She was a popular member of the Hastings Tennis Club and took a lively interest in social activities.

In addition to her mother and husband, she leaves two sons, John David and Peter Douglas, and one daughter, Miss Shirley Lane, Havelock North, a sister, Mrs. H. Anderson, in Australia, and four brothers, Messrs W., D., F. J, and R. S. Douglas, Te Mahanga.

An inquest was opened in Hastings this morning before the district coroner, Mr. G. Ebbett, J.P. and adjourned after evidence of identification was given.

The funeral will take place at the Havelock Cemetery tomorrow at 2.30 pm.
