The producer

James Morgan, at 26, is one of the youngest stage directors in New Zealand. He says he is fast reaching the stage when he cannot keep count of the shows he has controlled. For his efforts and his inspiration to the cast we say thank you.

Musical director

Cecil Fitzwater, one of Hawke’s Bay’s most accomplished musicians, has trained the chorus, orchestra and principals in their music. His diversity of talent has brought him the honour of being musical director of this year’s Mobil song quest.

Ballet mistress

Emma Maye has for 14 years been a member of the technical committee of the New Zealand Academy of National Dancing. She is a national examiner and has devised the choreography for several Hastings Musicals, including “Showboat”, “Rio Rita”, “Student Prince”. Her enthusiasm has been a stimulus to all in “Brigadoon”.

The orchestra

Piano:   Betty Hague.   Violins:   Enid Dunn, Anita Rae, Kay Jensen, Anne Scarrott.   Viola:   Adrienne Norris.   Cello:   Joan Palmer.   Bass:   Leon Speakman.   Flute:   Alan Clarke.   Clarinets:   Owen Knight, Wendy Etherton.   French horn:   Mike Winter.   Trumpets:   Stewart Boston, Roy Robinson.   Trombones:   Doug Robinson, Dave Kitt.   Drums and timpani:   Jock Seton.

Become a member of the Hastings Light Opera Company. We extend an invitation to non-active membership at £1/1/-. It entitles you to two free seats and preferential booking. Just write to the secretary, Miss Sara Holderness, Box 859, Hastings.

About Brigadoon

When “Brigadoon” was first produced in America it received an award from the New York critics as the best musical of the year. It also received acclamation from audiences in America, Britain, Scandinavia and South Africa and the reason for this is not difficult to find. “Brigadoon” is a story about a miracle and about love, set in the highlands of Scotland, with all the enchantment and beauty of that region. Such a theme in that setting cannot fail to succeed.
