A Message from the President
Once again it is my pleasure to welcome you to this year’s production.

Many people often ask, why do people join the “Frivs?” The answer is simple – to gain personal satisfaction by helping others, raising finances for worthwhile projects, and to fulfil their musical and creative interests.

You will see tonight the result of many hours hard work, and I’m sure, you will all agree with me in saying that the time given by all members, both behind the scenes and on stage, has been very worthwhile.

To all members I say thank you, and to you, our audience, thank you for your continued support.

Hon. Secretary –
Now in his fourth year as Secretary, and ninth year on stage, John’s task of “getting the show on the road” is not any easier. With a total of 50 members actively involved with the “Frivs”, this means a lot of organisation. It is interesting to note that this year’s production team of Patron, President, Secretary, Treasurer, Producers and Musical Director, have all at one time or other been, or still are actively performing on stage with the “Frivs”, which shows the basic grounding one is obtaining while performing with our company.

John would like to thank each and every member for their assistance in this year’s production.

Our Patron –
Looking back over the years since the “Frivs” started (1897), it gives me great pleasure to think that I have been a member since 1918, and have been associated with many men and women who have brought entertainment to Hawke’s Bay, and to many other villages, towns and cities throughout N.Z.

I trust the present members and those that will follow will carry on the good work and receive the same pleasure that I have.

Producer –  Minstrel Show
The “Frivs” are indeed proud to have Julienne Owen in this important role. Julienne has brought the sparkle and zing into the show you see tonight. Julienne has also directed the choreography and dancing for the entire show. Also a member of the “Frivs” for nine years as a dancer, she now has her own Tap and Modern Jazz Dance School in Napier and Hastings and has the M.B.B.O. (Advanced Diploma for Tap).

Producer – Pantomime
Having produced a lot of shows over many years, Syd brings an excellent standard to this year’s Pantomime, “Aladdin”.

Formerly our Secretary for 20 years, Syd has also written plays for radio – early in the 1950’s.

Syd would like to thank Margaret Atkins for her help in the production; also Julienne Owen for the choreography and dancing to the chorus numbers.

Musical Director –
In her second year as Musical Director for the “Frivs”, Edith has brought a fine standard of singing in both chorus and solo numbers in this year’s production, as well as capable control of the orchestra.

Also associated with many choral organisations in Napier over the years, including three years with the “Frivs”, Edith in private life is a registered music teacher, teaching piano and theory of music.

“ON STAGE”
1975

Roger Williams
(Mr Sambo)
Roger has been with the Company since 1966, and is perhaps our most experienced darkie, having been on the corner for the past nine years. Roger for many years has taken a comedy role in the Pantomime and this year as “Wishee” the Chinese laundryman.

Lyn Ferguson
(Miss Mandy)
This is the second year Lyn has been a darkie. Previously with the show for five years on stage in the circle. In the Pantomime Lyn has the dual role of “Head Girl”, a very versatile performer.

Dick Wood
(Mr Interlocutor)
Dick has the most difficult job in the Frivs, which I’m sure you all agree is carried out to perfection. Dick is also a long standing member of the Frivs and is well known for his solo singing around Hawke’s Bay and with the Napier Tin Hat Club.

Glyn Lawrence
(Mr Moses)
In his first year as a darkie, on the corner, Glyn is a darkie with the zing and zest necessary for this important position in our show. Formerly on stage in the circle, Glyn also takes the role of “Abanazer” in the Pantomime.

Neil Faulknor
(Mr Rastus)
Eight years on the corner, Neil must surely be our most travelled member. For rehearsal and shows for 10 months of the year, Neil travels 80 miles each night to perform with us. An outstanding performer in Pantomime this year Neil takes the lead role of “Widow Twanky”.
