Newspaper Article 1929 – Allen-Nelson

ALLEN – NELSON.

A wedding of considerable interest in Hawke’s Bay took place this afternoon at St. John’s Cathedral, Napier.  The Very Rev. Dean Mayne officiated.

The bride, Dorothy Nelson, daughter of the late Mr. F.M. Nelson, of Whakamarumaru Station, was married to Douglas Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Allen, of Swansea, South Wales.

As the wedding party came up the aisle – the bride escorted by her brother – they made a picturesque group.  The bride’s frock was of palest pink georgette, with a close fitting tucked bodice, and long tight sleeves.  The skirt fell in uneven drapery and was of filmy georgette.  A picture hat was worn, and a shower bouquet of pink flowers carried.

The bride’s two sisters, Janet and Jocelyn [Joceline], attended her as bridesmaids.  Miss Janet Nelson’s frock was of maize accordeon pleated georgette, with a wide hat to tone, and she wore gold shoes and carried a bouquet of gold flowers.  Miss Jocelyn Nelson wore a flounced georgette frock of delphinium blue, and her crinline hat was of blue to tone.  A bouquet of autumn flowers was carried.

Mr. E. M. Meredith, of Masterton, was best man, and the groomsman was Mr. E. M. Nelson, the bride’s brother.

After the ceremony a number of old friends were entertained by Mrs. Nelson, who wore a smart French frock of navy blue and ivory crepe-de-chine, with a navy blue hat, and she carried a beautiful bouquet.

After the happy couple had received the congratulations of their friends they left by car, the bride travelling in an ensemble, cut jumper fashion in tones of rose-dahlia, fashioned of finely pleated French crepe-de-chine.

Among those present were: – Mrs. W. L. Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. O. Nelson,  Mr. and Mrs. Harold Russell, Miss M. Russell, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Lowry, Miss M. Lowry, Mr. and Mrs. Kinross White, Mrs. Allen (Kopua), Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Smith, Misses Smith, Mr. and Mrs. George Kelly, Mr. and Mrs. J. Hunter (Waipawa), Mrs. G. D. Holt, Mr. and Mrs. G. D.
