Newspaper Article 1962 – Miss Olga M Smith

OBITUARY

MISS OLGA N. SMITH

There was a large attendance at St Matthew’s Church, Hastings, yesterday when tribute was paid to the memory of Miss Olga Newcombe Smith, who passed away last Friday after an illness extending over some months.

The service was conducted by Archdeacon S. F. N. Waymouth.

The daughter of Mr Hector J. Smith and the late Mrs Gertrude M. Smith, of “Ormlie,” Korokipo, Miss Smith was widely and popularly known in the many spheres of activity in which she had been engaged, particularly church work, the Plunket Society, and during the last war assisting women’s organisations undertaking the care of those actively engaged in military operations.

The possessor of a charming and gracious personality, Miss Smith took a prominent part in the social and sporting life of the community, notably as a member of the Napier Ladies’ Golf Club.

Besides her father she leaves three sisters, Mrs Leslie Nelson, of “Whakamarumaru,” Mrs Moore Renton, of “Whanakino,” and Miss Judith Smith, of “Ormlie,” to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended.
